Manning Centre Announces Details for its Conservative Leadership Debate
- Manning Centre will use unique debate format when it hosts Conservative leadership debate on February 24th in Ottawa
- 2017 Manning Centre Conference schedule released today
The Manning Centre announced further details today about the unique format it will use for the Conservative Party of Canada leadership debate it will host at the 2017 Manning Centre Conference (Feb. 23-25 in Ottawa). The organization also released the 2017 Manning Centre Conference schedule.
The Manning Centre’s debate will take place on the last day for entry into the leadership race making it the first debate to include the final set of leadership contenders. The debate will take place at the Shaw Centre on February 24 from 3:00p.m. – 5:00p.m. and tickets can be purchased online or at the door for $20.
The debate will provide a unique format to allow candidates to engage at a deeper level than previous debates. A random draw will be held at the beginning of the debate to separate candidates into groups of three or four. Each group will then debate one topic with two questions posed by the moderator. After the four groups have completed their debates, candidates will be given an opportunity for closing remarks.
“We’re endeavouring to focus the debate on major issues of particular concern to Canadians,” said Preston Manning, Founder of the Manning Centre. “By using a random draw to determine each candidate’s group, and the topic they’ll debate, we hope to add a bit more excitement to the event.”
The Manning Centre posted the full schedule on the conference website today. The three-day conference offers a variety of speakers and panels from the conservative movement.
