Nick Loenen, Former Richmond City Councillor

Nick Loenen is a former Richmond City Councillor (1983-87), and former Member of the British Columbia Legislature (1986-91).  He obtained his Masters Degree in political science from UBC in 1995. His book Citizenship and Democracy, a case for proportional representation, was published in 1997.  

That same year Nick chaired the Reform Party of Canada’s Task Force on Electoral Reform. He helped found Fair Voting BC in 1998 and played a prominent role in electoral reform efforts, including BC’s Citizens Assembly and the 2005 and 2009 referenda on electoral reform.  He formerly served on the national board of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation and was sessional lecturer, Department of Political Science, UBC. Now in retirement, Nick loves sailing and wood working. In 2012, his Wooden Boat Building, how to build a Dragon Class sailboat, was published.
